Gordon Clarence Corbould b. 16 April 1888

Gordon Clarence Corbould RAN served during WWI in the first submarine of the Royal Australian Navy - HMAS AE1. Gordon died when AE1 disapppeared during patrol operations off the coast of New England, New Guinea on 14 September 1914.

On Thursday 21 December 2017, 103 years after the submarine was lost, the discovery of AE1's final resting place was announced. The announcement included images of the hull.

There are no plans to recover the submarine. A war grave area will be gazetted.

Gordon never married. His name is included on the memorial in Epping NSW of Epping residents who served in World War I.

Gordon was a member of the Tamarama Surf Life Saving Club before World War I. After World War II, club members placed a plaque in the club's building at Tamarama beach as a tribute to the club's members who died in service during those two wars.
